I was so pleased with how money I had saved this past year. Then I spent one-third of my savings on taxes.

Some of my classmates don't file taxes. 5 years of not paying taxes on a grad student salary adds up to about 15,000. That's a lot of money.

I hope they get audited and thrown in jail >_<

I've become kind of obsessed with meeting new people this year. I'm trying super hard to put myself out there, go to events I might normally not go to, and make new friends. It all started as a result of being a TA and becoming friends with my students. Now I have a "group" to hang out with, and it's helping me expand my network. I am feeling happier as a result as well. Thank goodness for facebook to help me remember them all!

I had the most fantastic week! I LOVE being busy with non school stuff!!!

Last weekend was our first dance performance. We performed at the HSPH CSSA new year party on Friday. Saturday was rehearsal at MIT, which took foreverrr, but still fun. Saturday night I watched the Harvard CSSA new years celebration, and though I went by myself, I ran into several friends there and ended up singing some karaoke at the party. I am so incredibly thankful that I know how to speak chinese because otherwise I don't think I would feel comfortable in that setting or be friends with those people.

Tuesday and Thursday we had dance rehearsal. There was major drama with the security guards at Vandy because they realized we were sneaking non-students into the fitness room. They were unnecessarily rude to us, but luckily it was our last practice before the big show. Tuesday I also went over to Lei's house for a chinese new year dinner with some other chinese students in the department. She made the most amazing food ever!!! Great company and good conversation too. I also adore her kids and I want to take one home with me.

Friday morning I woke up super early to go pick up the prospective students from their hotel and bring them to school. I think my department does an amazing job organizing interview weekend. It was one of my favorite experiences with my department, so I always like volunteering for this event. Plus there is a lot of free food, and you feel powerful because the prospectives are trying to impress you =)

On Friday afternoon I headed over to MIT to get ready for our big dance performance at the boston inter-collegiate spring festival gala, hosted by MIT CSSA. I think our performance was a huge success!!! I am so proud of us! Vicky, Beinan, Min, Huichao, Yimin, Yongmei, Haoxuan. We worked really hard, we fought to not be cut from the program, and I think it turned out great. Lots of people complimented our performance, plus ours was a different style which made it appealing. The other dances were very soft girly traditional dances, so though they looked vastly more professional than ours, they were all of the same style. Ours on the other hand is super cool, it's called "kungfu fan", and the moves are much more defined and sharp. Yeah!!! We are awesome!! After the show ended, a few of us headed over to chinatown for a meal at Taiwan Cafe. It was midnight by now. We ordered a full on dinner of noodles, eggplant, watercress, and chunky chicken. GOOD TIMES!!

Saturday morning I went to go pick up the prospective students again to take them to dim sum. MMMM more free food!! It kind of baffles my mind why the department takes the students to dim sum every year because nearly half of them, including the faculty and staff, have some kind of dietary restriction. Or they're just turned off by the idea and end up just eating egg tarts. Also, even though the staff go every year, they still don't know what to order and rely on the chinese people to order. I was the representative chinese person at my table haha. Anyways, I love dim sum and I stuffed myself as usual.

Saturday evening Lei had another party at her house. This time it was for us 3rd years, since we don't see each other very much anymore. Well, this party was not nearly as exciting as the other one. First of all, I didn't really bond with most of my classmates, so I didn't have much to say. And second of all, 5 out of 7 of us brought their significant other... so yeah I need a significant other. I guess overall though, it was still a million times better than sitting at home.

Spring semester officially starts tomorrow. Gotta work hard now. OOOh tomorrow there are new episodes of the bachelor and gossip girl!! I am totally addicted to those shows.

It's weird, I feel depressed during the day but feel ok once 7pm rolls around. Then I sleep at 4am. I've been trying to sleep earlier but I just can't fall asleep!

I have another advisor meeting tomorrow. I didn't do anything all week. If this were a real job, I'd be fired by now.

    Congratulations to President Obama.
